In Coach Connell’s 6th grade science class, students explored planets and their internal structure through a hands-on lab. They created their own planets using different colors of Play-Doh, then sliced them open to reveal the layers inside!

A simple visit in Mrs. Ramirez’s class turned into a moment worth highlighting. Snyder Primary School Assistant Principal Andrew McCormick stopped by while students were discussing what they were thankful for. When they asked him the same question, he shared that he is thankful for each of them!

These photos show the impact that simple gratitude and encouraging words can have. We are grateful for our Tiger Family!

Snyder Junior High, it’s time for a friendly competition!

We’re collecting canned food from November 3–19 to support families in our community. Each grade level has a drop-off location:

6th Grade: Mrs. Natividad, Room 221
7th Grade: Mrs. McCormick, Room 100
8th Grade: Mr. Chavez, Room 219

You can also drop off donations during car and bus arrival in the mornings.

The grade level with the most canned food will earn bragging rights and get to choose the pig that Dr. Duncan has to kiss. 🐷 😘

A small act of giving can make a real difference. Thank you for helping us support our community.

Thank you to our Snyder High School coaches who have volunteered their time this past month to work with these athletes. The encouragement, the guidance, and the joy shared out on the field have made a difference. The Culture Committee brought a little seasonal fun to Snyder Intermediate this week. Staff picked a ghost for a mystery prize, and everyone joined in a schoolwide guessing game to see who could figure out how many M&Ms were in the jar. Our teacher winner received an HTeaO gift card. Our student winner earned the jar of M&Ms and a $10 cafeteria “gift card.” Just a simple way to share a smile and add a bit of sweetness to the day.

Since 2016, Snyder ISD’s total tax rate has decreased by $0.42, from $1.16 in 2016 to $0.74 in 2025, representing about a 36% reduction over this period.
Current Rates
M&O: $0.6822
I&S: $0.0603
Total: $0.7425
Proposed Rate (if the 2025 Bond passes)
M&O: $0.6822
I&S: $0.35
Total: $1.03
Changes in school funding are largely due to state-mandated tax compression, which reduced local control over the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate. The state now sets this rate for every district through a formula based on several factors, weighted most heavily on average daily attendance (ADA) and the district’s tax base.
Even if the proposed bond passes, Snyder ISD’s total tax rate would still remain lower than it was between 1991 and 2018, when it ranged anywhere from from $1.11 to $1.61.

Did you know Snyder ISD has refinanced both the 2005 bond and 2014 bond elections twice? The process is similar to refinancing a mortgage. In times of lower interest rate environments, there are opportunities to lower the interest expense related to the original bonds. Below is a detail of the savings each bond has realized through the refinancing process. Taxpayers will pay 41% and 44% less in interest than the original bond issues for 2005 and 2014, respectively, through refinancing.

Should the 2025 bond election be successful, the district will pursue opportunities to refinance the 2025 bond as well. SISD plans to issue bonds over three years to lessen interest expense. Snyder ISD is committed to the financial stewardship of taxpayer dollars. It is our goal to make financial decisions that benefit our students and community.

Did you know Snyder ISD is a recapture district? Under Texas school finance law, a district’s operating revenue entitlement is based on student enrollment and local tax effort. When a district’s property tax base generates more revenue than the state formula allows, the “excess” must be returned to the state, a process known as recapture. Since 2005, Snyder ISD has paid back over $120 million in recapture funds.

However, bond dollars are not subject to recapture. Revenue from bond taxes is not included in the state’s funding formulas. That means 100% of bond dollars stay local, supporting facilities and infrastructure right here in our community.

This afternoon, Mayor Ducheneaux presented a proclamation declaring October 15th as White Cane Safety Day in Snyder. The proclamation was given to fourth-grade student Kerstin Culwell at the beginning of the City Council meeting.

Kerstin, her family, and her teachers are helping bring awareness to accessibility and visual impairment. Their efforts remind us that inclusion and understanding matter every day, not just on special occasions. For individuals who are blind or visually impaired, tools like the white cane represent independence, safety, and confidence as they navigate their world. Recognizing this helps build a community where everyone is empowered.

We invite everyone to join us for the White Cane Celebration Walk on Wednesday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Snyder Intermediate School. Wear red, black, and white, the colors of the white cane, and help celebrate awareness, accessibility, and the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired.
