School is out for summer, but SHS student-athletes are hard at work! Two SHS Powerlifters competed in San Angelo at the "Meet Me at the Bar" USAPL Texas Meet.
Jeremiah brought home 1st place, setting a personal best in the deadlift with 441 lbs. Chandler placed 2nd in his weight class while also setting personal best in the deadlift with 441 lbs and a personal best of 209 lbs in the bench press.
Coach Johnson explains what sets the USAPL apart, "The difference between THSPA and USAPL is the gear and suits we lift in during school season. For USAPL, we chose to compete 'raw.' This means no suits that aid in squat, bench, or deadlift. The results are solely on raw strength of the lifter."
Please join us in congratulating these student-athletes!

Please take note of Snyder ISD summer office hours. During the month of June and July, the offices will be open Monday - Thursday from 7:30am - 4:30 pm.

The kickball tournament has quickly become one of our favorite traditions! The Pride of the West Band and cheerleaders kicked off the event on Friday morning. Junior High and High School students from Big Spring and Snyder enjoyed a day filled with kickball, a food truck, and friendships! We appreciate our school community for supporting this event and we are already looking forward to next year!

What better way to end our last Friday than with some ice cream. Mrs. Leija’s Dual-Language second grade class turned their “Shape Sundaes” into real sundaes! 💛

Students recently visited Pizza Inn to make their own pizzas! They had fun choosing from all the different toppings and sauces to create the perfect slice. From kneading the dough to enjoying the final product, students enjoyed their visit start to finish!

In addition to fun and celebrations, May also brings bittersweet endings. Last night we celebrated to staff members who are retiring from their careers in education, Nurse Chris Bane and Coach Shannon Fink.
Family, friends, and coworkers gathered to wish them well on their next adventure. As is tradition, each retiree was gifted with a wooden rocking chair. Congratulations and enjoy your retirement!

SHS National DECA Qualifiers Carlos Galindo & Israel Chaparro are back from the ICDC (International Conference & Development Center) in Florida. Mrs. Gillespie, DECA teacher and sponsor, said, “We all learned a lot of great information for next year about how things work, pointers on what to do & not.” Congratulations DECA!

Thanks to the generosity of a grant from the Snyder Education Foundation, Mrs. Griffith's kindergarten class received insect kits allowing them to get an up-close view of the outside from inside their classroom. After observing each insect go through their lifecycle, they recently released the butterflies, ladybugs, and praying mantids outside!

What brings Mrs. Wells joy? "I love reading books with my students but I love it even more when they want to read books with their classmates. I had them read with a buddy with flashlights for Flashlight Friday and they loved it. We had a great time and hearing all the thank yous for letting them read for fun made my teacher heart happy."
