Thank you for your patience this morning. Transparency matters to us, and the timeline below reflects how decisions were made in real time.
Timeline of Events
7:02 a.m. District Cabinet was notified by Snyder Junior High staff of a power outage at the campus.
7:05 a.m. The Director of Safety and Technology contacted Big Country Electric to determine the cause of the outage and an estimated restoration timeline.
7:24 a.m. Big Country Electric reported an estimated restoration time of two to three hours.
7:26 a.m. The Interim Superintendent contacted the Board President to discuss next steps. Given that the district was already operating on an early release schedule, the interim superintendent made the decision to cancel school for Snyder Junior High School for the day. Discussions with food service and transportation staff began to finalize plans.
7:29–7:34 a.m. Notifications were sent to Snyder Junior High families through the urgent alert system via voice call and text. Additional communication was shared through ParentSquare to all campuses, as well as the district website, social media, and local news outlets.
7:49 a.m. A follow-up message was sent to families of bus riders to provide additional clarification.
Families were also notified that students already on campus could remain at school, where breakfast and lunch would be served. Parents who chose to pick up their students were asked to do so at the normal pickup location.
8:08 a.m. All junior high students had been safely dismissed.
Bus Communication: Families of special education students were contacted by phone to ensure student safety prior to dropoff. Our transportation staff personally contacted as many families as possible by phone. ParentSquare communication was also sent to families of bus riders. Families were informed that junior high bus route students had not yet arrived on campus, so bus routes were turned around and students were safely returned home.
We are thankful for our staff who adjusted quickly, remained student focused, and ensured a calm and supportive environment as plans shifted this morning.
We know the timing of this situation was inconvenient, and we appreciate the grace and understanding shown by our families and staff. Our priority remains student safety and clear communication, even when circumstances shift quickly.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools and our staff.
