long range facility committee

Snyder ISD's Long-Range Facility Planning Committee continued its work on October 20 with a closer look at academic programs, campus facilities, and opportunities for future improvements.

The committee, made up of more than 50 students, parents, school employees, taxpayers, and community leaders, is studying district needs to help develop a Long-Range Facility Plan. Members will review facilities, enrollment trends, academic and extracurricular programs, safety and security, transportation, technology, maintenance, and financial resources.

The committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Snyder ISD Board of Trustees and Administration. Its work is guided by the district's Strategic Plan, with an emphasis on student needs and responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources.

A Closer Look at Academics and Facilities

The October meeting, held at Snyder Intermediate School, focused on academics and how district facilities support student learning. District instructional leaders provided an overview of enrollment trends, student demographics, academic performance, instructional systems, and programs offered at each campus.

Members also reviewed the Board-approved elementary campus reconfiguration scheduled for August 2027. Under the plan, Snyder Intermediate will become a PreK–Kindergarten Early Learning Campus, while Snyder Primary will serve students in grades 1–5.

Following the presentation, committee members toured Snyder Intermediate to examine classrooms, shared spaces, and other areas of the building. The tour provided an opportunity to learn how existing facilities will be adapted to better serve younger students.

Looking Ahead: Dream Big

LRFPC

The meeting concluded with a Dream Big activity, inviting committee members to share ideas for future facilities, programs, and student opportunities.

Members rotated through five planning areas, contributing suggestions and placing gold stars beside ideas they supported.  The activity aimed to encourage creative, big-picture thinking and gather input, not establish priorities or make final decisions. As the planning process continues, the committee will evaluate potential improvements based on student needs, feasibility, available resources, and long-term financial considerations.

Next Steps and Transparency

Committee members also identified their preferences for serving on five subcommittees: Academics & Enrollment, Safety & Security, Technology, Capital Improvements & Transportation, and Student Programs & Extracurriculars.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 16, at Snyder Junior High School, beginning at 6 p.m.

Snyder ISD is committed to keeping the planning process transparent and accessible. Board members and the public are welcome to attend and observe committee meetings, while participation in discussions and activities is reserved for appointed committee members. The committee will continue gathering information, touring facilities, and evaluating district needs before presenting recommendations to the Snyder ISD Board of Trustees and Administration.
