long range facilitiy committee

Snyder ISD’s Long-Range Facility Planning Committee held its second meeting Tuesday, October 20, at Snyder Intermediate School. Members heard an academic update, toured the campus, and explored possibilities for district facilities.

The committee serves in an advisory role to the Board of Trustees and district administration. Guided by the Board-Adopted Strategic Plan, its charge is to keep students at the center of all recommendations while making the most of district financial resources.

Members were appointed by the Board of Trustees and district and campus administration to represent every grade level and campus, along with a cross-section of taxpayers and business leaders, both with and without students enrolled in Snyder ISD. Several Snyder Junior High and Snyder High School students are also on the committee. At least five committee positions were filled by volunteers who applied to serve.

During the October meeting, members reviewed the committee’s charge and discussed their assigned review of Policy CS (Legal). Dr. Jessica Gore, Snyder ISD Superintendent,  provided an overview of academics before district and campus leaders guided members through Snyder Intermediate. Members shared observations, participated in a “Dream Big” activity to explore future possibilities, and identified their subcommittee preferences.

The committee’s broader work includes studying data, assessing facility improvements and safety needs, and reviewing current and projected district finances. Members will consider options for addressing buildings, maintenance, transportation, safety and security, and technology. Final recommendations will be presented to the Board of Trustees and district administration at a public meeting.

Transparency is an important part of the planning process. While participation in committee discussions and activities is limited to committee members, the public is welcome to attend and observe. Meeting materials and presentations are available at www.snyderisd.net/longrangeplanning, allowing families, staff, and community members to follow the information being considered and how recommendations take shape.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 16, at Snyder Junior High.
