Snyder ISD fourth and fifth graders explored American history through the experiences of children during a visit with authors Harriet Kocher Lewis and Preston Lewis, who shared their book, Pintsized Pioneers: Taming the Frontier, One Chore at a Time.

The nonfiction book examines the responsibilities children took on to help their families on the American frontier. From gathering fuel and water to helping grow food and make clothing, their work offers readers a closer look at daily life in the Old West.
For Snyder students, the visit provided an opportunity to connect with published authors and explore the past through stories about young people. The focus on childhood offered an approachable starting point for learning about a different time and the roles children played in their families.
Snyder ISD thanks Harriet and Preston Lewis for sharing their time, knowledge, and love of history with our students.
