Snyder ISD’s Golden Tigers are connecting with local students through shared stories and time in schools. Volunteer opportunities began at Snyder Primary School and are now expanding to Snyder Intermediate School, making room for more community members to get involved.

Golden Tigers members recently volunteered to read with Snyder Primary students. When it was time to wrap up, the students wanted just one more story. The experience was rewarding for both students and volunteers.

Whether students read themselves or listen to someone read aloud, sharing books helps build vocabulary and a love of reading. It also gives students time with community members who care about their success.

Golden Tigers meetings are held monthly, but volunteer opportunities are available every school day. Members can hear district updates, ask questions, and connect with one another at meetings, then spend time supporting students throughout the month.

The program welcomes community members age 60 or older, or anyone who considers themselves golden. Participants do not need to be retired educators, Snyder ISD graduates, or have children or grandchildren enrolled in the district.
