Snyder ISD is aware of the recent community conversation regarding the portrayal of our Tiger mascot, T.
We have heard from community members with different perspectives, including former students and families who have shared additional information about the history of T. We appreciate those who have reached out respectfully and provided that context.
T represents Snyder High School and Snyder ISD, but we also recognize that there is a student inside the costume who has worked hard, earned the opportunity to serve as our mascot, and takes great pride in representing Snyder. We value both our traditions and our students.
For the remainder of this school year, T will continue wearing the mascot attire and items already approved for this year. Our focus will remain on what T does best: supporting our students and teams, building school spirit, engaging our youngest Tigers, and representing Snyder with pride.
Before mascot tryouts this spring, the district will take time to more thoroughly research the history and traditions associated with T. We will use that information to establish clear expectations for the mascot role moving forward and communicate those expectations to students before they choose to try out.
We appreciate the passion our community has for Snyder ISD and its traditions. Our goal is to support our students, honor what makes Snyder special, and make thoughtful decisions that serve our district well beyond any one school year.
