Last Thursday, the Snyder ISD Board of Trustees approved a framework to restructure the committee studying facility needs districtwide, ensuring more student voice and representation from across the district and community.
The Long-Range Facility Planning Committee, or LRFPC as it will become known, will be made up of secondary students, educators and parents from each of the district’s schools, as well as community leaders and taxpayers. This group will serve in an advisory capacity to the School Board on a temporary basis during the 2026-27 school year, beginning with an orientation meeting in mid-September. The committee’s work will be instrumental in developing a five year Long-Range Facility Plan.
The restructuring of this committee aligns with Board Policy CS (LEGAL). Updated by the Texas Legislature in 2021, this legal policy requires the process of developing the long-range facility plan to consider input from teachers, students, parents, taxpayers, and other district stakeholders. The legal requirement for a long-range facility plan is met when a district completes the plan and presents it to the Board of Trustees. The need for community engagement as part of the planning process is a state requirement.
According to the Framework Adopted by the Board of Trustees on Thursday, the 50+ members of the LRFP will be appointed by campus and district administrators and the School Board. Committee work will begin this fall and continue throughout the school year, leading up to a recommendation to the Board of Trustees in June 2027. The process will also include opportunities for community input through a spring survey.
The committee’s charge is to:
Study current demographic data and future projections for student enrollment;
Tour district facilities and assess capital improvement, safety/security needs in consultation with SISD staff;
Identify any additional needs required of the district to effectively carry out its mission and/or the district goals outlined in the SISD Strategic Plan.
Review Snyder ISD’s current and projected financial situation, considering all factors, including but certainly not limiting SISD to: new construction, building additions, temporary facilities and/or any other options for addressing maintenance, transportation, safety and security or technology; and
Make a final recommendation as part of a Facility Planning Committee Recommendation to the SISD School Board and Administration.
The committee will keep students at the center of all recommendations and maximize the district’s financial resources. The committee’s work will be presented in a public meeting as recommendations to the SISD School Board. A district webpage will be dedicated to sharing information and presentations with the public as part of the committee’s ongoing work.
Committee membership will include the following:
10 Elementary (PK-3) Representatives
4 Intermediate (grades 4-5) Representatives
9 Junior High School Representatives
12 High School Representatives
7 residential or commercial taxpayers of the community appointed by the Board of Trustees
5 Administrative appointees from the community as follows:
Two business or corporate leaders appointed by the Administration
Two residential taxpayers (without current SISD students) appointed by the Administration
One residential taxpayer who is the parent of a child not yet of school age
5 At-Large Community Representatives through an application process
Five positions on the committee will be appointed through an open application process. If you are interested in serving on the committee, you can inform a campus principal and/or apply through the application process.
Filling out an application does not guarantee placement on the committee which will have to be balanced to ensure all geographical areas of the district and various student programs have representation.
