A piece of Snyder High School senior Jaylen Acosta’s artwork is now flying proudly over Scurry County.
Jaylen’s design was selected as the winner of a contest to create a commemorative flag celebrating Scurry County’s 150th anniversary. The flag was officially raised at the Scurry County Courthouse, where it now serves as a lasting tribute to the community Jaylen calls home.
Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows praised the design for capturing the pillars of Scurry County, including its industry, art and skyline, along with the unique beauty of West Texas. He also recognized Snyder ISD for offering programs that inspire students to develop this level of creativity and skill.
Snyder ISD extends its appreciation to the Scurry County Historical Society for coordinating this meaningful initiative and giving students the opportunity to help commemorate Scurry County’s 150-year history.
Jaylen is a dedicated and hardworking student who has successfully balanced academics, competitive tennis and two jobs throughout his high school career. These experiences have helped him develop strong time-management skills, responsibility and perseverance.
He also values the time he spends with friends and family, whose encouragement has played an important role in his success. His experiences in the classroom, on the tennis court and in the workplace have prepared him to embrace new challenges as he works toward his goal of becoming an architectural engineer.
Jaylen’s flag is more than a winning design. It is a young artist’s view of home, lifted into the West Texas sky and woven into Scurry County’s history.
