Every morning at Snyder ISD, our classrooms open up opportunities for students to learn, build friendships, and prepare for the future. As parents and guardians, you are our most crucial partners in making sure your child reaches their full potential. That partnership starts with daily attendance.
Why Attendance Matters
Research shows that consistent school attendance directly impacts student confidence, test performance, and graduation rates. Missing just two days a month can cause a student to fall behind in reading and math. When students attend school regularly:
They build strong routines and positive relationships with teachers and peers.
They receive real-time, grade-level instruction that cannot be replicated at home.
They stay on track to earn required course credits for promotion and graduation.
Understanding Texas Attendance Laws
We know life happens: illness, family emergencies, and medical appointments arise. However, state law requires regular school attendance to ensure all children receive a quality education:
The 90% Rule: Under Texas law, a student must attend at least 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade. Missing more than 10% of class days (even if excused) can put course credit at risk.
Compulsory Attendance (Education Code 25.093): State law mandates school attendance for school-aged children. Unexcused absences totaling 10 or more days (or parts of days) within a six-month period can lead to truancy intervention or court referral.
How We Can Work Together
We are here to support your family. You can help keep your student on track by taking these quick steps:
Submit Notes Promptly: Send medical, dental, or official documentation to your student's campus attendance clerk as soon as your child returns to school.
Communicate Early: If your child must miss school, let the campus know right away so we can update records accurately and offer learning support.
Plan Around the Calendar: Whenever possible, schedule doctor appointments and trips outside of school hours or during district holidays. View our campus calendar here: www.snyderisd.net/calendar
