Snyder ISD is sharing several safety updates for the 2026-2027 school year as the district continues its work to provide safe, supportive learning environments for students and staff.
The updates include new safety measures, continued campus supports, improved transportation technology, and clear expectations for students, families, staff, and visitors.
“Snyder ISD is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive,” said Superintendent Dr. Jessica Gore. “Safety is not one single program or procedure. It is a layered approach that includes people, systems, communication, preparation, and strong partnerships.”
School Resource Officers at Every Campus
In collaboration with the Snyder Police Department, Snyder ISD has budgeted for and hired four school resource officers for the 2026-2027 school year. Each campus will have a dedicated school resource officer.
School resource officers support campus safety, assist with emergency response, and help build positive relationships with students and staff.
The district will also continue several safety supports already in place, including two district safety specialists, the Guardian Program, Standard Response Protocol drills, emergency response procedures, the E3 App, and STOPit reporting.
STOPit will remain available as a reporting tool for students, families, and staff to share safety concerns.
New Clear Backpack Requirement
One new safety measure for the 2026-2027 school year is the district’s clear backpack requirement.
All students will be required to use a clear backpack that meets district guidelines. Families may purchase their own clear backpack, or students may use one provided by Snyder ISD. Clear backpacks will be available at each campus’s Tiger Takeoff event.
Backpacks must be clear vinyl or mesh on all sides. Students may also carry one small non-clear bag for personal items, up to 5.5 by 8.5 inches.
Lunchboxes do not have to be clear.
Athletic bags do not have to be clear, but they must follow the district’s current protocol. Student-athletes must drop off athletic bags in the locker room before the start of the school day. All bags are subject to search.
Clear Bag Expectations for Athletic Events
Clear bag requirements will also apply to game day and athletic events.
Guests attending athletic events are required to follow the clear bag policy. Allowed bags must be clear or see-through on all sides. Guests may also carry one small non-clear bag for personal items, up to 5 by 7 inches.
Student backpacks, whether clear or non-clear, are not allowed inside varsity athletic events. Medical, sports, band, and media equipment bags are allowed after a search. All bags are subject to search.
Student ID Badges
All Pre-K through 12th grade students will be issued a student ID.
Secondary students will wear IDs visibly during the school day and at required events. Elementary student IDs will be attached to backpacks.
BusRight Brings Real-Time Bus Information to Families
Snyder ISD is also launching BusRight, a new transportation tool designed to give families real-time bus information and added peace of mind.
Through BusRight, parents and guardians will be able to track bus routes, view estimated arrival times, and receive notifications about delays or route updates.
The new system is expected to be especially helpful for families who want reassurance about where their child’s bus is and when it is expected to arrive. Currently, the Snyder ISD transportation office receives approximately 50 to 60 calls a day from families asking about bus locations. BusRight will give families direct access to timely information while also helping transportation staff focus more efficiently on daily operations.
BusRight will also support the district behind the scenes by helping transportation staff design routes more efficiently, adjust routes more quickly when needed, and enhance overall safety for students and staff. Bus riders will be issued a Bus ID to use with the system.
Weapon Detection Systems
Weapon detection systems will be used for students and visitors at Snyder High School and Snyder Junior High during the 2026-2027 school year.
Students and visitors at both campuses will pass through weapon detection when entering or re-entering campus during the school day. Entry points will be consolidated, with two entry points at Snyder High School and one at Snyder Junior High.
Visitors at Snyder Primary School and Snyder Intermediate School will pass through weapon detection upon entry.
All visitors during the school day must sign in at the front office with a valid ID, which will be run through the Raptor system before screening. Random spot checks may also be conducted as an added safety measure.
Future Safety Supports
Snyder ISD will continue pursuing available grant funding to support additional fencing where appropriate and allowable. While the district does not anticipate grant funding will cover all fencing needs, the district will continue seeking opportunities to complete as much work as possible.
Snyder ISD is also exploring Campus Crime Stoppers for the 2027-2028 school year to complement the STOPit reporting system already in place.
