dr. gore and trustees at TASB presentation

This week was full of learning, planning, and momentum as we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year.

Monday began with a one-on-one meeting before traveling to Midland to meet with the Midland Crime Stoppers team and the Director of Texas Crime Stoppers from Governor Greg Abbott’s Office. Thank you to Midland ISD for sharing insight into how their program supports student and school safety. The afternoon included our weekly Cabinet meeting and Summer with the Superintendent (Popsicles & Pages in the Park). The evening was spent planning for Leader in Me implementation next school year.

Tuesday included visits to summer learning programs and the Scurry County Appraisal District Board meeting to better understand property valuations, mineral values, and their impact on district revenue. I also joined a Texas Association of Midsize Schools interview with Texas Teachers of Tomorrow to share the rural district perspective on House Bill 2. I stopped by the Scurry County Library to pick up books for my kids, too! That evening, our Board approved a 2.5% salary increase for employees not on the teacher pay scale, and all teachers will receive a step increase. We appreciate the Board’s continued investment in our people.

Wednesday started early with a trip to Dallas to watch Dr. Duncan present at the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Conference before spending the afternoon planning with our secondary principals and assistant principals. Our elementary principals and assistant principals were also learning at the Texas Elementary Principals & Supervisors Association (TEPSA) conference. Building leadership capacity is essential for our campus administrators and the students we serve.

Thursday and Friday were spent at the Texas Association of School Boards Summer Leadership Institute alongside four of our board members. On Friday, we had the opportunity to present “When Boardrooms Work, Classrooms Win,” highlighting the importance of strong governance and aligned systems in supporting student success.

Summer brings a different kind of busy, but the stability, focus, and momentum we are building continue to make me excited for the year ahead.

Hope everyone is having a great summer break!
