This announcement follows a 2025 season marked by growth, grit, and a true team-first mindset. Athletic Director Anthony Gonzales reflected on the year, sharing, “Lots of growth defined the 2025 baseball season. While it didn’t end the way our Varsity Tigers hoped, I am incredibly proud of the way this team battled through a tough district schedule and put themselves in a position to compete for the playoffs. One thing that stood out all season long was the energy and enthusiasm. Every time I watched, I saw a TEAM that was excited to take the field and play the game of baseball the right way. That is something to be truly thankful for. I am also very proud of our junior varsity team and the great things they did this season. The future is bright for our program.”

Coach Gonzales also extended his appreciation to Coach Hurst for stepping in as interim head coach this season, sharing, “When I asked him last July to lead the program until a permanent hire was made, he graciously accepted. I am extremely grateful for the dedication, leadership, and stability he provided, along with the commitment of his coaching staff and family. His efforts have made a lasting impact on our Tiger baseball program.”

“After an extensive search and many hours spent interviewing outstanding candidates, I am excited to announce that Coach Anthony Trevino has been named the new head baseball coach of the Snyder Tiger Baseball Program,” Gonzales said. “While this hire was approved a few weeks ago, the district chose to wait until the conclusion of our playoff push to maintain focus on the team. We are confident that great things lie ahead for Tiger Baseball.”

Coach Trevino brings a strong background as both a player and coach. A former standout athlete, he earned all-district honors and Lubbock All-City recognition before continuing his career at Wayland Baptist University and Sul Ross State University, where he threw the first no-hitter in program history and earned SAC and National Division III Pitcher of the Week honors.

He has served as both an assistant and head coach at Shepherd High School and most recently coached football and baseball at Lubbock High School, while teaching courses including AP U.S. History.

Known for his leadership and commitment to building a strong team culture, Coach Trevino is dedicated to developing student-athletes both on and off the field.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead a program with such a rich tradition of success and excellence, and I look forward to building on that legacy here in Snyder,” Trevino shared.

Coach Hurst will remain on staff, and Coach Steven Wilson has been added as an assistant. Looking ahead, every level of the program will be supported by coaches with head coaching experience.
