At the regularly scheduled January 2026 Board of Trustees meeting, Snyder Junior High students were recognized for their participation in the Daughters of the American Revolution American History Essay Contest.
The awards were presented by June Isbell with the Martin Preuitt Jr. Chapter, NSDAR, who shared the contest's purpose and honored student achievement. The American History Essay Contest is designed to promote patriotism, preserve history, and encourage students in grades 5–8 to explore United States history through research-based writing aligned to an annual theme.
Two students were recognized as chapter-level winners. Brantley McKay was named the 7th grade winner, and Knox Morris was named the 8th grade winner. Both students received the DAR American History Bronze Medal, and their essays have advanced to the Texas DAR State-level competition.
Also recognized was 7th-grade RLA teacher Heather McCormick for seeking out this opportunity to her students and for her initiative in connecting the campus with the DAR. Her efforts provided students with a meaningful opportunity to engage with American history through critical thinking and writing.
