Update from the superintendent

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Snyder, TX, August 17, 2023 –  Superintendent Bob Rauch announced several changes within the district, beginning with the Special Education Department.  Joann Toliver, who had been serving as the Director of Special Programs, resigned due to personal reasons. Despite her relatively short tenure within the district, Ms. Toliver made notable contributions to the special programs department.

Superintendent Rauch noted that her departure leaves a void at an inopportune moment, emphasizing the need for the district to unite and prioritize students' needs. He added, "We are fortunate to possess the collective strength and expertise of our campus-level leaders, who will guide us through these unexpected changes."

Taking the opportunity to promote from within, Superintendent Rauch introduced Mrs. Canita Rhodes as the new District Director of Special Programs. Mrs. Rhodes, who has served as the principal of Snyder Primary School, brings a student-centric approach to her new role. "Mrs. Rhodes' experience as an administrator, educator, and leader positions her well to enhance our special programs department and better serve our students with special needs," Superintendent Rauch said.

“I’m excited about the challenge,” said Mrs. Rhodes.  “Special education in public education is complex.  Our primary focus is providing opportunities for all students to thrive in an optimal environment.  There are legal constraints and TEA requirements to work through, but ultimately the special education team’s objective is to do what is best for each student.”

Additionally, Superintendent Rauch announced the appointment of Mrs. Courtney Boyd as the new principal of Snyder Primary School. With a proven track record as Assistant Principal at Snyder Primary School, Mrs. Boyd's dedication to curriculum and academic excellence ensures a seamless transition. "We are confident that Mrs. Boyd will excel in her increased responsibility at Snyder Primary School," Superintendent Rauch commented.

Mrs. Boyd said, "I was raised in Snyder, and Snyder ISD holds a special place in my heart. I'm thrilled and honored to become the principal at Snyder Primary School. For the past 12 years, this campus has been my second home. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with our staff and our families to provide an exceptional educational experience for students.”

Mr.  Rauch acknowledged that the timing of these changes initially seemed less than ideal. " Making leadership changes with school underway was not the original plan. However, it's become evident that everything has fallen into place as it should and will provide the best outcome for students." He urged the entire Snyder community to extend their encouragement, support, and cooperation to ensure the success of SISD students.

"We remain resolute in our mission to empower Snyder ISD students to succeed, and these changes reflect our commitment to that mission," Superintendent Rauch concluded.
