Safety & Security Updates - Fall 2026

The safety of our students, staff, and facilities is a top priority at Snyder ISD. We work closely with local law enforcement and emergency response partners to support a safe and secure learning environment across all campuses.

Snyder ISD has a number of programs, protocols, and procedures in place to promote safety, respond to concerns, and protect students and staff. Beginning in 2026, the district will launch several new safety initiatives while continuing to strengthen the systems already in place.

Our goal is to be proactive, prepared, and responsive while creating schools where students can learn, grow, and feel safe.

Clear Bag Policy for School and Athletic Events

To help keep our students, staff, families, and visitors safe, Snyder ISD will follow a clear bag policy during the 2026-2027 school year for school events and athletic events.

  • Allowed bags include clear tote bags, clear purses, clear mesh bags

  • One small non-clear bag for personal items, no larger than 5” x 7”.

  • Student backpacks, clear or non-clear, will not be allowed at Varsity football games.

  • For athletic events, medical, sports, band, and media equipment bags will be allowed after a search.

  • Athletic bags will not be allowed in academic areas during the school day. Students who need athletic equipment will continue to drop off their athletic bags at designated athletic facilities before school begins. As is current practice, these bags will be subject to search.

All bags are subject to search.

Thank you for helping us keep events safe, smooth, and focused on supporting our students and Tigers.

  • SROs support campus safety, assist with emergency response, and build positive relationships with students and staff.

Future & Pending Safety Supports

  • Snyder ISD will pursue available grant funding to support additional fencing where appropriate and allowable. While the district does not anticipate grant funding will cover all fencing needs, we will seek opportunities to complete as much work as possible.

  • Snyder ISD is also exploring Campus Crime Stoppers for the 2027-2028 school year to complement and supplement the STOPit reporting system already in place.

Continued Safety Supports

  • 2 safety specialists will continue serving the district: 1 for elementary and 1 for secondary campuses.

  • The Guardian Program will continue. Trained and authorized employees provide an added layer of protection, and participant identities remain confidential.

  • Standard Response Protocol drills and emergency response procedures will continue, along with the E3 App.

  • STOPit reporting will continue as a way for students, families, and staff to report concerns.

STOPit

stopit solutions

Snyder ISD began utilizing STOPit in 2025. This app allows for immediate notification to campus administrators, better tracking and follow-up on reported concerns, and ultimately promotes a safer school environment for everyone.

No personal information is needed to use STOPit. The only way personally identifiable information will be accessible through STOPit is if a student/family member voluntarily includes it within the content of a request or report.

STOPit: Confidential Reporting & Student Support

STOPit is a secure, anonymous reporting platform that empowers students, staff, and families to report concerns related to bullying, threats, mental health, and safety. Reports can be submitted through an app or website using text, photos, or video. Key features include:

  • Two-Way Anonymous Communication: Allows school personnel to follow up on reports confidentially and effectively.

  • Mental Health Integration: Students in crisis can be connected directly to trained counselors.

  • Accountability & Documentation: School staff can track, respond to, and resolve concerns through a secure dashboard.

  • Increased Accessibility: Makes it easier and more comfortable for students to speak up when they see or experience something concerning.

The STOPit platform creates a safer school culture by encouraging early intervention, promoting accountability, and supporting students' mental and emotional well-being.

Report information about weapons, threats, fights, drugs, self-harm, suicide, harassment (of any form), bullying, or any other disclosures made to you or posted online that are concerning. However, in the event of an EMERGENCY OR IMMEDIATE CONCERN, do not use the formCALL 911.

Student safety is of vital importance and we encourage you to share concerning information with us so that we may take appropriate action. This includes information about:

  • weapons

  • threats

  • fights

  • drugs

  • self-harm

  • suicide

  • harassment (of any form)

  • bullying

  • or any other disclosures made to you or posted online that are concerning.

What additional safety measures are in place to keep students safe every day?

Standard Response Protocol

Snyder ISD has coordinated a Standard Response Protocol with our local law enforcement agencies. Our school is expanding the safety program to include the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The SRP is based on these four actions, Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter. In the event of an emergency, the action and appropriate direction will be called on the PA.

  • EVACUATE - “To the Announced Location”

  • HOLD - "Remain in classroom, clear hallways"

  • LOCKDOWN - “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”

  • SECURE - “Secure the Perimeter”

  • SHELTER - “For a Hazard Using a Safety Strategy”

Please take a moment to review these actions. Students and staff will be trained and the school will drill these actions over the course of the school year. More information can be found at

Jeff McGinnis

Director of Technology and Safety

January 22, 2025 - Snyder ISD announces a change in leadership after receiving a resignation from the Safety and Security Director.

Going forward, Mr. Jeff McGinnis, our current Director of Technology, will take on the additional responsibilities previously managed under this role. This transition to the Director of Technology and Safety is a natural fit, as many safety and security functions align closely with the scope of the technology department, including campus and district-level safety operations and compliance metrics. Mr. McGinnis will also oversee Campus Safety Specialists and lead our security initiatives.

Mr. McGinnis brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served Snyder ISD since 2006. He began his career as an Agricultural Science Teacher, transitioned to Instructional Technologist, and has been the Director of Technology for the past 16 years. His deep understanding of our district’s infrastructure and operations positions him well to ensure a secure and supportive learning environment for all students and staff.

Thank you for your continued trust and support as we make this important transition that prioritizes the safety of our students and staff.
