Snyder High School Student’s Article Published in  Texas Association of Community Schools’ Magazine

Snyder, TX, November 12, 2021- Since its opening in 2020, Evergreen Research & Retail Greenhouse, a Snyder ISD Student Based Enterprise, has made headlines.

“We are excited to share the success of Evergreen. It has allowed students to gain real-world experience that aligns with our career preparation initiatives in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and even teaching and training,” said Dr. Eddie Bland, Superintendent of Schools for Snyder ISD.

Other districts have noted Snyder ISD’s unique approach to expanding learning beyond the traditional classroom walls.  When considering opportunities to share the success with others, The Texas Association of Community Schools (TACS) Magazine provided an opportunity to get the word out to the school community.   TACS Today is distributed to over 1000 school districts and individuals through mail-outs and conferences, and conventions. Texas school districts are among those who submit articles for publication consideration.

“In keeping with our effort to provide opportunities to students, it seemed like the logical next step to extend yet another opportunity to a student,” Bland said.  “We approached Madison Leib, a senior at SHS, journalism student, and greenhouse intern, about writing an article for the publication.”

In honor of Snyder High School's submission and publication, Texas Association of Community Schools Executive Director Barry Haenisch presented a copy of the TACS Today Magazine to the Snyder ISD Board of Trustees at their meeting on Thursday evening.

Mr. Haenish said,  “This is an outstanding example of forward-thinking in small and mid-sized schools.  There was a day that a school's job was to provide students with book knowledge and send them on their way.  What now know that if students are not prepared for their future they are not really prepared.”

“This is one of the very few student articles that has been submitted and published,” said Haenisch.  “Congratulations Madison, on a job well done.”

One of Snyder High School’s initiatives is to prepare students for life after high school.  Not only is this through school with traditional classroom learning, but with providing students with real-world experiences to put what they have learned into action.

Snyder High School is a P-Tech High School, a TEA accredited program providing students opportunities to earn a high school diploma and industry certifications, internships, and a college degree before graduating from high school.  The program has ten pathways, with plans to grow, offering students a unique opportunity to learn in an interactive and inspiring environment.

“At Snyder ISD, we want to provide our students with opportunities to learn in creative ways and apply what they have learned through meaningful avenues,” stated Bland. “This project has allowed us to tie all of our initiatives together and provide an experience for students that takes learning to the next level.  This is how we advance education.”
