SJHS Lady Tigers- Friday, July 31st the junior high girls' athletic department will be having an athletic (personal item) pickup. Times available to retrieve items left in the lockers during the 2020 year are 9:30 -12:30 and 4:00-6:00pm. Please park near the south entrance (facing the football field) and enter through the girl’s athletic hallway. A coach will be at the door to assist the students. Please be patient. Calling all incoming freshmen!! Save the date! Fish Splash 2020/2021 will take place on Wednesday, August 26th at the SHS cafeteria. To provide ample social distancing, there will be two sessions. Session one will be from 10-12 for students with the last name beginning with A-K. Session two will be from 1:30-3:30 for students with the last name beginning with L-Z. Students will enter via the cafeteria doors and will have temperature screens upon arrival. Masks will be required during the campus tour. Parents are welcome to attend!
Dual Credit Students: Dual credit classes will begin on August 12th. Please be vigilant in checking your emails! Information on the 2020-2021 dual credit classes will be sent out over the next few days. If you are new to the dual credit program, you will need to fill out and return an application before the Thursday, July 30th deadline. Dual credit applications can be picked up in the glass office at SHS (3801 Austin Ave) between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:15 pm. 2020-2021 School Calendar Update: After reviewing results from staff and family surveys, consulting with local health officials, and hearing recommendations from SISD administration the SISD Board of Trustees approved an amended Snyder ISD calendar for the 2020-2021 school year with the first day of school for in-person and virtual classes being moved to Tuesday September 8, 2020. The revised calendar and additional details will be released on Monday, July 27th. According to our recent surveys: 34% of families plan to select virtual school while 66% of families plan to select on-campus instruction 79% of both families and staff members are in favor of delaying the start of school until September 8th. By delaying the start of the school year until September 8th Snyder ISD is: allowing the recent increase of COVID-19 cases in Scurry County to recover and monitor local conditions, increasing the number of days to train staff on the virtual platform and allowing more time to secure and prepare technology resources for the virtual platform and 1:1 initiative. UIL recently announced fall sports for 4A schools to continue as scheduled. The first day of practice will remain August 3, and games and matches will begin in August. We will abide by UIL guidelines for these events. More details on spectators and other requirements will be announced soon. Although there is no hard deadline, we ask that you register your child before August 1 so we can adequately plan for the school year. When you register your child for school, you will select between virtual or on-campus instruction. Please choose the option that best meets the needs of your family. The district has established a grace period for three weeks after the first day of school, allowing families to change instructional environments. After that date, you can change enrollment between on-campus and virtual instruction at the end of each grading period. If special circumstances arise during the school year requiring a switch to virtual classes, please contact the principal for guidelines. The Back to School Bash will continue as planned on August 1 from 8 am - 3 pm. You may reserve your time when you register your student for school. As soon as we have information about other back to school events, technology distribution, and class assignments, we will communicate that with you. We appreciate the flexibility and support of our families, students, and staff as we navigate these uncertain times together. School systems must notify all teachers, staff, and families of all students in a school if a lab confirmed COVID-19 case is identified among students, teachers, or staff who participate in any on-campus activities. Should a staff member or student be at risk of exposure because they were in close contact with the individual who tested positive, the Scurry County Health Unit or a SISD designee will contact that staff member or student personally. Snyder students and families: Grief resources have been provided on the Snyder ISD website. The Dougy Center is a nationally recognized provider of grief and loss support for families and children. They have developed a series of tip sheets that provide understanding about grief and ways for individuals and caregivers to respond. We hope you find them helpful in understanding and supporting your child during this difficult time. This tip sheet is specific to grieving teens and addresses many of the feelings and experiences they may face during this time. It also provides coping strategies for them to use. The other tip sheet is specific to supporting grieving children and providing caregivers with tools to help. Dear Snyder Family, I am sorry to release such sensitive information in this way, but I want to make sure that everyone is aware. It is with deep regret that we inform you about a death in our school community. Mays Villarreal, who would have been a freshman at Snyder High School this fall, was in a serious accident over the holiday weekend and died. This loss will be felt throughout Snyder. Mays has family entering Pre-K, 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 10th grades next year as well as relatives and friends throughout the district and the community. The family has informed us that visitation will be at Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6pm-7pm and the funeral will be held at East Side Church of Christ, Wednesday at 2pm. During this time of sadness and grief, we will offer support to our students and staff. A virtual support group Zoom led by Snyder ISD counselors will be held at 1pm on Monday, July 6th. If we need to add additional meeting times, we will. Later this evening, we will send a Zoom meeting link to the email and phone number we have on file. Correction: We have been notified that the staff member who we reported to have a positive COVID-19 test earlier today, was indeed negative. We are relieved to hear that this staff member has not tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. We sincerely apologize for the error and confusion. We appreciate all of the concern for this individual. We are proud to be a part of such a supportive community.
On Thursday, July 2, 2020 Snyder ISD was notified a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The employee worked on Wednesday, but in an isolated area of a SISD campus. There was no known contact with any other employees or students. The district has thoroughly sanitized the areas where the employee worked and the employee has been told to quarantine until released by a physician. Earlier this week, SISD suspended the girl’s athletic conditioning program due to a possible COVID-19 exposure, however this case is thought to be unrelated. The district remains steadfast in our commitment to ensure the safety of our students and employees and we will continue to follow CDC guidelines. Snyder ISD will open schools to students on August 12 with plans to keep students safe and offer families options. Families will be allowed to choose between in-school learning and virtual learning for the 2020-2021 school year. Both in-school and virtual learning options will follow the same curriculum and students will be held to the same grading standards. Dr. Eddie Bland, Superintendent of Schools for Snyder ISD, states, “We believe that having students in classrooms is the best way to teach and we are excited to have students back in the building for the start of school on August 12. Understandably, parents have concerns, and extensive planning is underway to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to keep the school as sanitized and as safe as possible. These plans will be shaped locally by surveying our families, staff, and healthcare experts in addition to guidance from Governor Greg Abbott and TEA Commissioner Mike Morath. We will provide more details on these plans as soon as they are available.” To better understand the needs of families, the district has issued a family survey to learn which schooling option they prefer and what health and safety protocols they would like to see upon returning to school. Surveys were also sent to teachers to learn about their needs and concerns. All surveys are due by Friday, July 3, 2020 to help the district plan for the school year. Students who are enrolled in virtual learning can expect a robust platform and the same rigorous grading guidelines as in-person school. All virtual learners will be assigned a teacher and will follow the SISD school calendar. Although the school will provide students with a school-issued iPad or laptop, families will need to have reliable internet or access to the wi-fi hotspots to connect to the virtual classroom. For students who are struggling, have questions, or need support, students will be able to meet with their teacher virtually through the teacher help desk. Families will designate their choice between in-school learning and virtual learning when they register. If they have already registered and did not make a selection, a staff member will contact them. Registration for students new to the district opens July 6, and online registration for returning students begins on July 15. Virtual learning details: Pre-K-2nd grade: asynchronous*, or flexible classes, will be offered. In the flexible format, lessons will be recorded and completed anytime during the day. Families will need to set aside at least 3 hours per day for school. To be counted present for the day, students must be engaged for the assigned time during the 24 hour time period. *As of 6/30/2020, the TEA states that asynchronous learning is required in the virtual format for grades Pre-K-2nd. However, we will provide virtual interaction with teachers in a real-time format to support student learning. Grades 3-12: real-time (synchronous), or flexible (asynchronous) classes will be offered. Real-time classes will be held at scheduled times in the day. Flexible class lessons will be recorded and are to be completed anytime during the day. For students in grades 3-5, families will need to set aside at least 3 hours and students in grades 6-12 will need to set aside at least 4 hours per day for school. To be counted present for the day, students must be engaged for the assigned time during the 24 hour time period. “Should there be a need to close campuses again due to COVID-19, we will be prepared to switch immediately to a fully virtual format. Our staff demonstrated flexibility, perseverance, and commitment to launching an online format in a matter of days. I know they are committed to helping all students succeed in whatever format they choose,” states Rachael McClain Assistant Superintendent -- Learning and Innovation.
In 20-21, all students will be expected to attend school in-person or virtually on a daily basis. Important update from the Lady Tigers Athletic Department: Out of an abundance of caution, the Snyder Junior High and High School girls' strength and conditioning program will shut down through July 14, 2020, due to possible COVID-19 exposure. The dates of potential exposure were June 25th and 26th. Workouts for boys’ athletics will continue as scheduled since they work out in a separate location. Snyder ISD takes precautions daily to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Athletes are screened before entry with temperature checks, are spaced 6 feet apart during workouts, and equipment is sanitized daily. Should your female athlete have attended workouts on these days, we recommend following CDC guidelines to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. The most common symptoms of novel coronavirus are fever and cough, sometimes difficulty breathing, more rarely sore throat, muscle aches, and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms can also be due to many other illnesses. If you develop a fever (100.4°F/38°C or higher) or any symptoms, it doesn’t mean you have novel coronavirus, but you should follow up with your primary care provider.

Students who are MAP testing during the week of 6/22-6/25 should: - Arrive at Snyder Primary by 8:45 for AM sessions (for am session) - Arrive at Snyder Primary by 12:45 for PM sessions. - Parents will drop students off in the drive through lane on the north side of the building by the flag pole. There will be SHS student interns that will escort your student inside the building to get them set up for their test. - Once students are done with testing, a SISD employee will call you for pick up instructions. Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) is a one-time food benefit for families who lost access to free or reduced-price meals due to school closures. Eligible P-EBT families will receive application instructions from schools in early June. Families who received SNAP benefits for the month of March 2020 and have children 5-18 years old as of May 17, 2020, do not need to apply for those children. These families will receive P-EBT benefits on their current Lone Star Card by May 22. Families with children up to 21 years old who are certified to receive free or reduced-price meals during the 2019-20 school year need to apply for P-EBT. (This includes families who received SNAP benefits for the month of March 2020 and have children under 5 and between 19 and 21.) Your school district will send you a link to an online application by the first week of June. Once HHSC receives the application and verifies your eligibility with the school list, you will receive a Texas P-EBT card in the mail that includes P-EBT funds. The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs. Graduation Update! Please read carefully! Based on Governor Abbott’s order that was released on Monday, May 18, we are removing the limit on the number of people that may ride in the car with each graduate. Guests in the vehicle, with the exception of the designated driver, may accompany the graduate into Tiger Stadium to see their student walk the stage. A designated driver will remain in the vehicle at all times. The designated driver can be a neighbor, a friend, a church member, a co-worker, etc. Only one vehicle per graduate will be allowed. They will drop off the graduate and their party at the south gate. The group will need to remain together the entire time and will exit the northwest end of the stadium with the graduate to meet their driver. The plan listed below has been designed to honor Governor Abbott and Commissioner Morath’s graduation guidelines and social distancing guidelines from the CDC. Parade Line-Up: The parking lot opens at 6:00 PM. Graduate and their guests must arrive no later than 6:45 pm and park in their assigned parking spot in the South Parking Lot. Parking pass must be displayed in the windshield. 7 pm Parade Begins: Graduates must wear their cap and gown in the parade. Each graduate will receive 1 parade/parking pass. There is not a limit to the number of guests that may accompany the graduate in the vehicle for the parade. Please be safe. 1 vehicle (car/pick-up truck) per graduate (siblings may ride in the same vehicle) Decorated vehicles are allowed and encouraged Broadcast: KSNY/Big Star 101.5. KSNY will broadcast the parade on the radio and SISD Facebook live beginning at 7 pm. This will include the valedictorian/salutatorian speeches, school song, alma mater, and naming of the graduates. No candy may be thrown from vehicles. PARADE TRANSITION / GRADUATION Graduate drop-off and parking: At the end of the parade route, the graduate and their guests will exit the vehicle in the parking lot in the Southwest corner of Tiger Stadium. Graduate Line-Up: A SISD staff member will assist in lining up the graduates. Driver: A designated driver must remain in the vehicle and pick up the graduate and their guests at the Northwest corner of the football field. NOTICE FROM UIL - 2020-2021 PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS For the 2020-21 school year only, any participant in athletics or marching band, in any grade level, who has not previously completed a preparticipation physical examination (PPE), and been cleared for participation, will be required to complete the medical history form as noted in the current rule, as well as a PPE prior to participation in any UIL practices, games, performances, or matches. UIL will be waving the physicals for this year only unless you have never had one, or have a previous concussion or other condition. You must fill out the Medical History form that can be found in your Arbiter account. There will be someone in the SISD Athletic Office located at 3901 Denison Ave beginning on Thursday, May 28th through June 4th. Please stop by if you need help with your Arbiter. If you are in need of a physical please contact Cogdell Hospital to set up an appointment. It will be free until July 31st.

Class of 2020! During today’s press conference, Governor Abbott and TEA Commissioner Mike Morath announced guidelines for High School graduation. Snyder ISD is moving forward with plans to hold graduation outdoors at the Snyder High School football field on Friday, May 22, 2020, at 8.p.m. A graduation parade will be held beforehand. There will be assigned seating to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families. We are working out the logistics of both events and will release more details by the end of this week.

Based on Governor Abbott’s Reopen Texas Plan, the question was raised about large group gatherings such as graduation. We have contacted local and state officials for clarification and are awaiting details from the Governor and TEA. As soon as we receive more information, we will provide you with an update. As of now, the plan is to continue with the graduation parade with a stage for seniors to cross at a stopping place along the parade route. Each senior will ride individually (not with other classmates) in a truck or convertible and spectators may cheer for graduates along the parade route. SISD will coordinate the event with local authorities. Participants and spectators will be asked to follow social-distancing and other health and safety guidelines. A photographer will be present to take photos and the event will be broadcast live. If we receive permission to hold a larger graduation ceremony at a venue, we will let you know as soon as possible. We will continue with the parade to allow the community to celebrate, just at an earlier time. It is our goal to give our graduates the recognition they deserve, within the constraints of the Governor’s order, and while ensuring the safety of our community.

Dr. Eddie Bland, Superintendent of Schools for Snyder ISD, announced the appointment of Katy Cade as the new principal of Snyder Intermediate School for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. “Mrs. Cade has leadership experience within the district and is respected by the staff. She will be a great asset to Snyder Intermediate,” stated Bland. Mrs. Cade has served as the Assistant Principal of Snyder Primary School for the past three years and served as the Assistant Principal for Snyder Intermediate School for one year. Prior to coming to Snyder ISD, she was the Principal at Rotan Junior High School in Rotan, TX. Mrs. Cade holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and a Master’s Degree from Lamar University. Mrs. Cade stated, "I have had the privilege of working with exceptional leaders at Snyder ISD. I am excited about the opportunity to return to the Intermediate campus and contribute to their continued success."

Good morning SISD! You hear it all the time during flu season: wash your hands to prevent the spread of flu. You may have heard advice encouraging you to do the same to stop the spread of COVID-19. But do you know why this simple practice works so effectively? Washing your hands with soap and water breaks up the molecules of the virus and washes them away, preventing the virus from infecting you or others. To be able to effectively and reliably break up the virus cells, you must wash your hands thoroughly and vigorously for at least 20 seconds. Doing this can be incredibly effective! In fact, a study showed that when a group of elementary aged school children participated in supervised handwashing 2-4 times per day, the spread of a similar virus was reduced by 47% While it is important to wash your hands, it is also important that we all regularly disinfect surfaces. COVID-19 has been shown to live for up to three days on various surfaces. If you must leave your home for essential services, be sure to wash your hands as soon as you return and disinfect any surfaces you may have touched. If someone in your home is ill, it’s also important to regularly disinfect. Applying soap and water plus commonly used disinfectants to frequently touched surfaces will break up the virus and carry it away, in the same way soap kills and carries away the virus on your hands. We hope you and your family are able to regularly take these simple steps, which will help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and help your family to stay well. Snyder ISD and Responsive Education Solutions Announce Junior High Leadership for the 2020-2021 School Year Snyder, TX, March 28, 2020-- Snyder ISD and Responsive Education Solutions, the largest charter school system in the state, are formalizing a partnership for the 2020-21 academic school year. Update from Snyder ISD - March 15, 2020 SISD families, I know you are eager to hear an update from our district. Over the weekend, SISD officials have been in regular communication with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Scurry County Health Unit, and medical experts. As of Sunday, March 15th, Scurry County does not have any confirmed active Coronavirus/COVID-19 cases that would lead us to close the school. Currently, we plan to reopen schools for students on Wednesday, March 18th. The safety and well being of our students is of the highest priority to our district. We have significantly increased our preventive measures and are closely monitoring students and staff for health symptoms. We understand that all of our families have concerns. Some of you will want to keep your kids home and some of you will want to send your children to school. We are working on plans for all of you. We want to empower you as parents to make the call whether or not to send your child to school during this time. This situation is changing rapidly, should a full-school closure become necessary, we will notify you as soon as possible. For parents who want to keep their children at home. Your child’s absence will be excused if you choose to keep your child home because of concerns with COVID-19/Coronavirus. School notification: Please complete the Student Absence Notification Form to notify the district of your plans to keep your child home. It is available on our website and social media page. Alternate education options: Our staff is working hard to provide you with resources to continue your child’s education at home. We do not want students to fall behind. Parents/guardians should commit to facilitating instructional support and time for students to complete coursework. Instructions for accessing instructional material will be provided by Monday, March 23rd. Student meals: We are working with our Food Services Department on a plan to provide meals to students whose parents elect to keep their child at home due to COVID-19/Coronavirus concerns. For parents who want to send their children to school. We are making operational adjustments to provide the safest and healthiest environment possible. Hydration: Water fountains are covered to reduce the risk of spreading germs. However, to encourage proper hydration, we are requesting parents to send water bottles with students. Water bottles will be provided to students who do not have one. Some campuses are equipped with bottle fillers and those will be left open for use. Health & hygiene education: Nursing staff and teachers will review hygiene practices with students and reinforce healthy habits throughout the day. Disinfecting/cleaning: Custodial staff will clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and fill soap and sanitizer dispensers throughout the day. The E-mist disinfectant system will be used on buses and in classrooms daily after the kids have left. Mealtimes: The cafeteria will serve meals for breakfast and lunch, as usual. Lunchtimes may be altered to allow for more distance between students. Campus visitation policy: Beginning Wednesday, March 18th, SISD will temporarily limit ALL campus visitors, including parents and volunteers. Parents will only be allowed on campus to pick up or drop off their children. If a parent meeting is scheduled, they will be required to complete check-in and check out at the office or campus clinic. Parent participation in Admission Review Dismissal (ARD), RtI, 504, or LPAC meetings will continue on campus as usual, but participants will be subject to screening. Message from SISD Superintendent, Dr. Eddie Bland Good afternoon parents, students, and community members, I know many of you have questions about the Coronavirus / COVID-19 and how it will impact our schools. We are doing our best to prevent and plan. We receive updates throughout the day from multiple sources and we send SISD representatives to the Scurry County Coronavirus Taskforce meetings. The task force meets multiple times a week and consists of over 15 professionals including physicians and staff members from Cogdell Memorial Hospital, Scurry County EMS, Scurry County Health Unit, and Snyder ISD. Thursday morning, I personally met with officials from Cogdell Memorial Hospital and the Scurry County Health Unit to hear the latest on the COVID-19 virus. On Friday, March 13th, we will hold a meeting with district leadership to discuss options and continue planning for a variety of scenarios. Currently, the district is following the recommendation of the CDC and focusing on prevention. We will continue disinfecting the school buildings and busses thoroughly. Custodial staff is disinfecting high-touch surfaces and filling soap and sanitizer dispensers throughout the day. The E-mist disinfectant system is used in designated areas. Will school be canceled? As of today, the district plans to resume classes on Monday, March 16th. We will closely monitor the situation, and should it become necessary to cancel school in the future, we will notify families via text, the Snyder Tigers app, email, website, local media stations, and social media accounts. •What if I’m worried someone in my family has been exposed to COVID-19? If you feel they may have been exposed while traveling during Spring Break, please contact the Scurry County Health Unit or your physician for direction. •What if my child is sick or I think they may be sick? Families should follow standard procedures for illness upon returning from spring break (and any time your child has been sick). •Fever: Students must be free of fever for 24 hours without Tylenol or Advil. •Vomiting or Diarrhea: If your child is vomiting or had diarrhea, they should not return to school until those issues have been resolved for 24 hours. •Students on Antibiotics: Students who receive antibiotics for an illness should wait 24 hours after the first dose of antibiotics and after the last instance of vomiting or diarrhea before returning to school. Again, if anyone feels they may have been exposed to COVID-19 while traveling during Spring Break, please contact the Scurry County Health Unit or your physician for direction. All of these guidelines apply to our staff as well. Because this is a developing situation, we will provide updates as soon as they become available. Kindergarten--There will be two Kindergarten music performances this week. The first performance will be on tonight, February 18th. The classes of Jennings, Solis, Soliz, Stewart, and Miller will perform on this night. The second performance will be on Thursday, February 20th. The classes of Krueger/Alexander, Groves, Mercer, Griffith, Minyard, and Jackson will perform on this night. Both performances are at 7:00 in the evening.
Congratulations to the SHS Lady Tigers on their Bi-District win over Burkburnett! The 40-22 win has advanced the ladies to the Area competition. Tip off will be Thursday, February 20th at 6pm against the Argyle Lady Eagles at Eastland High School (900 W. Plummer St. Eastland, Texas).

Valentine's Day is coming up and love is in the air! Parents, we know you want to shower your students with gifts of adoration, however, please keep in mind deliveries will not be sent to your student in the classrooms. This becomes a distraction to the educational environment. Deliveries will be held in the office at each campus or other locations if necessary and will need to be retrieved by the student at the end of the day.

Good afternoon SISD staff and families, We are rapidly thawing out this afternoon; however, the National Weather Service predicts temperatures to be well below freezing tonight. Icy roads will most certainly be an issue tomorrow morning and the safety of our students and staff takes priority. Since Fridays are shortened instructional days, a late start isn't a reasonable option. Therefore, SISD will be closed tomorrow and will reopen on Monday, February 10th. At this time a decision has not been made about extra-curricular activities scheduled for Friday. Stay safe, get well, and we will see everyone on Monday.
Due to a significant number of students and teachers absent with the flu and the National Weather Service’s prediction of bad weather and unsafe roads, SISD will close all schools on Wed 2/5 and Thurs 2/6. All athletic and extracurricular activities have also been canceled.
The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority. Due to a significant number of students and teachers absent with the flu and the National Weather Service’s prediction of inclement weather and unsafe road conditions, Snyder ISD has made the decision to close all schools and administration buildings on Wednesday, February 5th and Thursday, February 6th, 2020. In addition, all athletic and extracurricular activities/competitions — including before and after-school practices, rehearsals, and events — have been canceled for Wednesday and Thursday. We are encouraging families to help us slow the spread of illness to teachers and students by: Keeping children home until they are fever-free WITHOUT medication for 24 hours. Keeping your children home if they are vomiting or have diarrhea. They may return 24 hours after symptoms have resolved. Teaching your children to properly cover their coughs and sneezes and to wash their hands frequently. Washing backpacks and jackets. Please stay warm, safe, and use this time to rest and recover. Snyder Primary is excited to be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge this year! Students and staff are encouraging community members and businesses to come together and participate in The Great Kindness Challenge. Snyder Primary has selected the week of February 3rd-7th to participate in this event. The Great Kindness Challenge is a positive, proactive kindness initiative, reaching millions of students and families every year. This positive and uplifting program helps creates a culture of kindness in schools, communities, and the world. Using a 50-item checklist, schools and families are challenged to complete as many acts of kindness as possible. The School Edition is an annual one week challenge during the last week of January. Snyder ISD Department of Transportation and Admin are keeping an eye on the weather! Cold temperatures are expected to continue over the next couple of days with the possibility of freezing rain. We are committed to remaining sensitive to issues of safety. In the event that travel becomes an issue and or causes delays /early dismissal, SISD will announce via social media, SISD Website, and the SISD Tigers App, local radio stations.
On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, TEA Commissioner Mike Morath notified Snyder ISD of his intention to honor the parent petitions requesting he close Snyder Junior High. SISD believes we have proposed a strong plan, however, Commissioner Morath informed the district that he would not approve the proposed realignment plan that would create two educational pathways for our 2nd through 8th grade. The plan to realign grades and restructure academics has been the subject of multiple community meetings, staff meetings, and focus groups since October 2019. One criteria for reopening the campus was the campus must offer a significantly different academic program and is the commissioner’s decision that the proposed Inquiry-Based Learning Academy did not meet that threshold. Additionally, Commissioner Morath is appointing conservator, Keri Barnett, to the district. The role of the conservator is to monitor and report back to Commissioner Morath the district’s progress with regards to improving the academic performance of our students. The district has until no later than January 30, 2020, to submit a revised comprehensive plan for campus closure that will meet the statutory requirements and receive approval from Commissioner Morath. The options for reopening campus remain the same; signing an agreement with a Charter to operate the Junior High Campus, or reopen the Junior High with the majority of the grades different and a distinctly different academic program. The district remains steadfast in our commitment to provide the best education to our students. We will diligently explore all available options for our Junior High and our District. We will keep you informed as updates become available.

So that we can still provide the necessary information to as many people as possible, we will soon release the updated information to you online via video. Snyder Bus number two was involved in a minor accident this morning at the intersection of College and 37th St. EMS checked out the students and the driver of the bus and everyone was ok. The bus was not damaged and delivered the students safely to school.

Snyder ISD is now accepting referrals for students who may need Gifted/Talented Services for the school year. This program is designed for students who exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities at an extraordinary level not normally served in the regular classroom. Services are provided only upon identification of education needs of the student. Anyone wishing to refer a student attending Snyder ISD in kindergarten through twelfth grade this school year is asked to go by the student’s campus office and request a copy of the referral form. This form must be returned to the school by November 22. Those unable to go by the school should call the campus to request a form be sent to them. El Distrito Escolar de Snyder esta aceptando referencias para estudiantes que puedan necesitar servicios de Gifted/Talented (programa para estudiantes que tengan talentos/inteligencia mas alta que sus iguales) para el ano escolar. Este programa esta diseñado para estudiantes que muestran habilidades intelectuales y habilidades inventivas de nivel extraordinario que normalmente no se sirve en las clases regulares. Los servicios son prestos únicamente cuando hay identificación de necesidades educativas del estudiante. Cualquiera persona que quiera referir a un estudiante en grados de kínder hasta el grado duodécimo dentro del Distrito Escolar de Snyder puede ir por la oficina de la escuela del estudiante para pedir una copia de la forma de registro. Esta forma necesita ser devuelto a la escuela para el día 22 de noviembre. Personas que no puedan ir por la escuela deben de llamar a escuela para pedir que se le envié la forma.

An eagerly awaited meeting with Snyder ISD leadership and the TEA Commissioner came to fruition in Austin today. Eddie Bland, Ed.D., Superintendent of Snyder ISD, Ralph Ramon SISD Board of Trustees President, and Brad Hinton, SISD Board of Trustees Vice President, met with Commissioner Mike Morath to discuss sanctions against the district for Snyder Junior High’s academic rating. Texas Education Code §39A. 112(b) allows for parent petitions to direct the Commissioner’s decision. On October 31, 2019, Dr. Bland was presented with 313 petitions, a sufficient number to require the closure of the campus. In addition to the parent petitions for closure, Dr. Bland was presented with 486 parent and community petitions supporting the reopening of Snyder Junior High with a grade realignment. The petitions will be delivered to the Commissioner no later than December 1, 2019. The next step will require SISD to develop and submit a comprehensive plan to reopen the campus, with the majority of the grades realigned. “These next steps will require planning and partnership," states Dr. Bland. "We look forward to collaborating with parents, teachers, district leadership, community members, and the TEA to do what is best for our students." Student safety and parent communication are top priorities at all SISD campuses. All SISD campuses are currently on a hard lockdown per the request of the Snyder Police Department. All students are safe and under the supervision of staff and faculty. Parents will not be allowed in the buildings until the lockdown has been lifted. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
