Meeting the October 31st deadline, parents presented Dr. Eddie Bland, Superintendent of Snyder ISD, with petitions from SISD parents and community members.  Petitions have been collected throughout the community in October.  According to the TEA, a written Parent Petition for Action may be submitted for any campus that is subject to an order of closure or appointment of a board of managers due to receiving unacceptable performance ratings for three consecutive school years after the campus is ordered to submit a turnaround plan under TEC §39A.101.

If the Commissioner of Education is presented, in the time and manner specified by 19 TAC §97.1065, with a valid petition signed by the parents of a majority of the students enrolled at the campus, specifying that the commissioner order either campus closure or the appointment of a board of managers, the commissioner shall order the action requested in the petition.

"Parents presented Ralph Ramon, SISD Board of Trustees President, with 311 Parent Petitions in favor of closure of the Junior High Campus, 486 Community Petitions requesting campus closure and reopening with realignment, and 10 Parent Petitions requesting a Board of Managers," states Dr. Bland, Superintendent of Snyder ISD.  "We have a meeting set with the TEA Commissioner, Mike Morath, on November 7th.  I look forward to meeting with him to discuss what's in the best interest of our students and how we can move forward."

According to Dr. Rachael McClain, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction,  the district will hold additional focus groups and meetings with teachers and parents to discuss the best course of action moving forward.  Dr. McClain states, "Realigning the district will require a team effort from staff, administration, parents and the community. We are ready to get started and to reshape the future of Snyder ISD."

Community Petitions for closure and realignment will be accepted throughout November.  They may be signed by parents, guardians, and community members.  Petitions are available at all school campuses and the administration building.
